Tjeti gently, almost reverently stroked Sekhmet's hair as she slept. He felt more like the animals of the night that moaned, and called in the gardens just outside their chamber. Sekhmet stirred and moaned, turning to face him. For a few moments she fought to focus her eyes, and staring up at the loving face of her husband she smiled.

"Egypt has come to bed late," Sekhmet whispered, shoving a pillow out of the way and snuggling closer to her husband, "I was dreaming that we were still upon the Hap and that we had arrived only to find that Kemsit had declared herself Queen."

"Your dreams are too prophetic at times, Wife, for she may as well have," Tjeti frowned and snorted abruptly, punching the cushions into place in order to prop himself up next to Sekhmet, "Kemsit has no tact."

Pulling herself up Sekhmet sat up next to her husband. He was rarely petulant and even though he at times demonstrated temper, Tjeti had always been more than willing to overlook Kemsit's many infractions in propriety - if only for her good intentions. Sekhmet respected Tjeti's handling of the situation although she would never truly understand Kemsit because she had never felt the need nor did she possess the patience to try to fathom her sister-in-law's motivations. How, Sekhmet wondered, could one woman be so obsessed with propriety be so devoid of tact ? Sekhmet never had such a time with the rest of Tjeti's family for she was on excellent terms with both of Tjeti's brothers and his niece and nephews and assorted relatives. Only Kemsit caused such anxiety within the family.

"Surely it cannot be that bad! What has she done this time?" she asked, running her fingers over Tjeti's furrowed brow. She felt him relax a little as he sighed.

"She wants to refuse Nebmaatre's match with Tetisheri because she has found a more suitable husband, " he said rubbing the backs of her fingertips against his face after kissing them softly, "I am unsure of the match. It would feel like a betrayal since I asked my neice to trust me to find her a suitable husband." He exhaled sharply, " Damn Kemsit and her meddling!"

"Kemsit is doing what any good mother would do for her daughter - or son," Sekhmet reasoned, "And did she tell You who her choice would be instead of Nebmaatre?"

"She did," Tjeti ground his jaw.

"And who is this fortunate man?"

"Kemsit wishes Tetisheri to become the wife of Per'aa."

The pronouncement was far from surprising to Sekhmet It was a natural ambition for Kemsi want to be the grandmother of the next Per'aa. Tjeti was a good and caring Husband, a loving father and brother, a benevolent and wise priest. All of these things he brought to the throne as King of the Two Lands. As power corrupted lesser men, Tjeti had been always upright, like the feather of Ma'at. Perhaps at times, Sekhmet thought, it was this that prevented Per'aa from seeing the wisdom of being less trusting, and shielded His vision from thos who were less than honest and forthright.

Sekhmet regarded him cooly,"Your sister, for once, is right." Tjeti drew a breath and opened his mouth to protest, but she held a finger to his lips to silence him and then replaced her finger with a kiss, " Be assured it does not please Your Queen to say that. I think Kemsit is overbearing to the extreme. If anyone I feel sorry for Tetisheri, but at least under Your roof, she may bet some respite.

"To Sebek with Kemsit!" Tjeti growled, "To Sebek with this entire business of a harem. It has been nothing but trouble since you suggested it, Sekhmet. I have a princess of Thrace waiting at Kemsit's home for me to assign her proper quarters, I have another princess on the way from Meroe, and the King of Parthia is sending me his daughter as well," He rolled her beneath him, cupping her breast in his hand, rolling the nipple between his fingers. "I have only seen Myself with one wife, and she is always by My side. What do I need Teti for?"

Sekhmet smiled through half-closed eyes, her hands caressed his shoulders, the great expanse of flesh beneath her hands were a wonder to her. She wanted to close out the rest of the Two Lands, sing softly to him, and merely hold him until everything and everyone went away. A lone oil lamp glowed upon a low table, bathing his face in soft light. Once more she caressed the lines of his brow .

"You need to shore up Your dynasty, my Love." Sekhmet said simply, "You need to follow your sister's advice."

Tetisheri huh? I met a woman once who was convinced she was Queen Tetisheri reincarnated. Didn't really think what to make of it. I always put question marks with people who claim a rich and royal past. She was truly convinced of it and for the rest a very honest and person. So who knows? She did aura reading and healing.

*grin* Yeah, I had heard of that sort of thing! This is mostly because this is an archive from an interactive fiction site, and a friend of mine, Webcrowmancer, wanted to see more of my Sekhmet Meritamen stories from there. Supposedly Tetisheri is my character's niece and soon-to be fellow Queen. Tangled webs we weave! ;-)

eep! again with the Intrigue and the lush descriptors!

::HappySigh:: (or is that Hapi? lol!!)

I once believed I could write 'Egyptian', but after reading this, it rather seals my doom. I cannot write like this. The sense of all-pervading ominousness of future events, and actions. The total sum of that simultaneous freedom of POWER, and the complete trap of being utterly beholden to the responsibility such power brings, to the Land and the Throne. "No tact", indeed. I am of the opinion that your writing puts Anne MacCaffrey's Pern series in the backseat! ;) Your style is reminiscent of Renault's, but with far more dignity and accessibility, if that makes sense.

Am loving these!!! It feels like feasting on rich food, and utterly delicious it is.
