This week I will be making my herbal antibiotic formula because I am almost out. It contains Echinacea purpurea root, goldenseal root, slippery elm bark, mullein leaf, yerba santa leaf, ginger root, cayenne. I will also be putting together an elderberry cough syrrup with elderberry, ginger, honey, elder flower and osha. And then the alopecia formula that I do with agrimony, horsetail and foti.

Will let you know how it turns out. I am not sure if I should wait because the moon is now waning and we are now mercury retro or not. :-/

what do you store your herbal medicines in? Thanks.

I store everything in glass. The medicines I make in formulas, are either tinctured or capsulated. Right now this batch for the antibiotic, for cold and flu season, I make up about 400 capsules at a time, I store these in a jar in my herb cabinet, labelled and dated of course. My tintures, I make these up by mascerating the herb in a mason jar, agitate it daily. Let it steep for one full moon cycle approximately. this is then strained and decanted into cobalt coloured or amber coloured wine bottles, also labelled and dated.

The elderberry cough syrup I cook on the stovetop and then I decant after it cools into bottles. I keep it in a cool dark place. I have an apothacary in my basement, with floor to ceiling shelves on three walls of the basement. There is a dehumidifier running all the time so again, moisture is not an issue and its fairly dark.

The agrimony, fo-ti and horsetail tincture I use for hair loss. This stuff is better than Rogaine! When I was caring for my mom who was dying of cancer, my hair came out in handfulls. This stuff helped me reverse the problem, and now the hair is not only coming back, its coming back in some cases as my original color (ie not gray!). I have other Temple members who are using it with very good results. All of the users have been women, but I don't see why men couldn't try it, too.

But about the glass that I use; I prefer to use cobalt blue rather than amber glass when I give folks enough medicine for personal use. It is my opinion, that people seem respond to them better, for whatever reason. When dealing in the healing business, you take all the positive psychology effects that you can, so who am I to question a person's response to blue glass versus brown? :)

Thank you so very much. You are so very lucky to have an apothecary!! I totally agree with the cobalt glass, too. cobalt is my favorite color so whenever I see oils in cobalt I am more likely to purchase them than if they were in ameber. YOu are doing some great work. :)

Oh dear, Gawd, Dean! I read everything, practically! I read alot of literature, right now I am bouncing between the 17 volumes of the Arabian Nights Tales and Robert Ludlum and then some factual books on pirates, herbalism, and screenwriting. It's a wonder my head doesn't explode! ;-)

It's a wonder my head
