Rant mode is switched to on. I am in a mood, I am PMSing and I am sick and tired of al the b.sl concenring our government and the "citizens" - that means all of us who are apathetic and dont get up off our literal and proverbial backsides to wake up and do something.

Warning: Language, convictions are a definite NC-17. Ye have been warned.

I am all for freedom, and enlightenment and positive relatinship with plant allies, but I swear there are people who should NEVER enter into the world of mind altering substances. Their irresponsibility, their idiocy for no other reason than "it's a cool thing to do" irritates the hell out me. I've got bloody morons calling me on the phone asking about using Salvia Divinorum for giggles on Samhain / All Hallows Eve. I'm sorry. Maybe it was the way in which I was ritually trained through my life and the plant alliances that I have built that you do not approach another being, you do not go through that doorway unless you have somewhat prepared yourself. Because if it goes wrong - it yoiu don't have the personal / spiritual / metaphysical / mental discipline to deal with it you are going to become another goddamned statistic that will do nothing more than help the US occupational government take these very herbs away from us by legislation. By legislation, I am FORBIDDEN to share any knowlege I have about a plant with a consumer. I have been called on the carpet for telling a consumer what not to do as well as what to do. I have been chastised for informing a consumer of why someone can't get something anymore. "What's the deal with Eyebright? Why can't I get it?" I got in trouble for saying, "It is on USDA restrictioin. Apparently it was declared a noxious weed and they are worried it will damage crops and waterways under conservation."

They know and I know its all a load of b.s. The reason why Eyebright is nearly impossible to find in cut and sifted form and impossible to find unless you wild craft it in this country is the pharmaceutical interests. Eyebright has a number of uses, one of which it is effective as hell at stopping allergy symptoms. Guess the makers of Claritn didn't like the competition. Not when they can sell you five pills for nine bucks. Then there is Ephedra sinica or Ma Huang. I knew ten years ago we were going to lose this herb. That's why I'm sitting on a bit of it for my own use - and I'm not parting with a single bit of it. I have no intention to distribute - I don't care what anyone pays me. I can breathe, I manage my asthma because I have it, and yet because of its flagarant abuse by the sports enhancement and dietary supplement industry - in ILL CONSIDERED formulas we have people who overdose on it or take it who should never have taken it in the first place. That is why Thompson, a major player in the pharmactutical industry went belly up, declared bankruptcy. Why? Because most of their products contained Ephedra sinica and with the current hoopla they lost thier asses. Multi millionaire and motivational speaker Tom Robibins just purchased the company btw, so Thompson will be around for a while, but this proves to me that a little bit of knowledge in the hands of of some is a bad thing. The bad thing is the exploitation of the knowlege such thigns as, yes, if you take enough Ephedra, you will not only lose weight, you most likely will be speeding your titties off. What they don't tell you is that if it is not combined properly it can burn out your adrenal system, give you heart palpitations, and yes, it can kill you. When you enter into a relationship with a plant - with anything - you have to take responsibility for that relationship, period, point, end of discussion. Shirking responsibility off on anyone OTHER THAN the person who lifted that pill, the tincture that tea to their lips if they are not a child falls to the person themselves AND NO ONE ELSE. I do believe there should be educational requirements made of anyone and everyone with regard to these substances and basic health and well being - just like reading, writing and arithmetic are requirements. We now have a society of adults who are not functional. They do not have the basic knowlege of how to survive in this world. If all their convenience foods, their convenience entertainment etc were to go away - they would starve or freeze to death or die of illnesesses that were easily peventable. Hell, people don't listen to their own bodies anymore! They don't pay any attention to their bodies when it says to them. "yo...dude, I think we are going to end up getting sick. Can we do some dinner tonight heavy on the garlic and maybe take about 1500 mg of Vitamin C, just to be safe?" Why?! Why is this?! I don't goddamned get it!

Listen up! Your politicians, your government, your doctor, your insurance company et al are not going to fucking take care of you. YOU have to take care of you, and you are the ONLY ONE who is going to give enough of a damn about you to do it. If you don't you will be processed like so much meat going through the processing plant. If I can empower one person, one person only to stand up and take care of themselves, to get in the faces of "those who are in charge" and tell them "NO. I do this mysef, I do it with plants and herbs and diet and I know how to take care of myself and my family and I did it without your drugs and your overpriced insurance and I did it without so much as a by your leave!" IF I can do that, I am doing my job. I don;t give a lickety DAMN about anything else. I don't want lots of money or noteriety or fame - although I admit the money is a nice plus, I still won't sell out my convictions on this. We are a part of this planet, and we need to stop acting like a bunch of landlords and slave owners with regard to the world around us. Its because of that stupid consumer mindset with no sense of responsibility that we are losing these plants, even our freedoms on a daily basis.

Its ludicrous to think you can outlaw plants, but kids, this is a power deal. And in the last year I have watched more and more of our plant allies taken away because they are being exploited. Exploited on both sides of the issue. They are being outlawed by the governments, the pharmaceutical companies and the "concerned citizens" who don't want ot see people expand their consciousness - and they're being exploited by the moronic ignoramouses who seem to think that it's better, cheaper faster and legal to go get a plant and use it. Personally, I think botany and interaction with our plant allies, ecology, and conservation as well as basic herbal medicine and self sufficiency should be taught from the cradle onward. If it was, we wouldn't have the overdependence we now do on pharmaceuticals and drugs and procedures that are uneeded, insurance companies would not charge the premiums they do. Maybe if people would take PERSONAL GODDAMNED RESPONSIBILITY for thier lives and why they are sick or how they stay well, and stand up to these idiots who are no better than they are but have a few more years of school and a sheepskin on the wall that says "Doctor" or lawyer on it. Or some slick, sorry-assed politician in office who greased the right palm, or hob knobbed at the country club with the head of some influential pharmaceutical cartel et al, then maybe our health "care" system wouldn't be in the abysmal state it is in, and we would not be watching our freedoms get eroded on a daily basis.

Ok...Im ranted out.

Well I'm convinced! Good rant Niankh. All that needed saying anyway.

How does one enter into a plant alliance? What exactly does that mean?

You should really write an herbalism book. I think a lot more people would be willing to use herbs vs. otc but they look at this wall of information and have no idea where to start with it.

I'm not sure what the Kemetic equivalent of raising a horn is, but I do it now to you.

Seriously, I hate going to the dr, partly because I took so many antibiotics as a kid that I don't want to now unless there's a NEED (like when I had bronchitis many years ago). Plus the shit my body went through from paxil and ritalin... don't even get me started.

I've lived with this body for almost 30 years, I know it well. I know what triggers asthma and allergies, I know when it's going to be rainy (thank you arthritis), etc.

Now let me envy the plants you sit upon. :)

When I was studying herbal medicine in Australia, I found out about the debates and controversy over the pharm. companies and the herbal distributers/growers-etc. It upsets me to see stuff like this happen. I wish there could be more open-minds and more information available to the public. Not the altered information that the pharm. ompanies send out but the true facts about the herbs. I remember the debate over comfrey, the pharm. companies declared it unsafe because it caused liver damage. They were giving the lab mice extra comfrey hich made them sick. Also, anything in excess can give you liver damage. A herbal doctor argued and said if you ate three plates of comfrey a day you'd get the damage. Not from the small doses they were prescribing. *sigh* I love the holistic field so much but with all of these laws and restrictions, how are people supposed to take care of themselves?

Do what you can. If you can grow things in your own yard or on your patio do so. I am a BIG advocate of a home apothacary. If you find a good book on herbal lore, and I have a list of several really good ones I will post on the LJ Groups ethnobotanpharm and also sekhem_healing. This is going to have to be a grass roots level effort - no pun intended. We really have to take back control of our lives and our freedoms. It's almost like the days of the Inquisitors and the repression against midives and village healers during the middle ages - and also the move away from the ecclectic healing movement during the earlier part of the 20th Century. It's all about control. I wonder how many times we are going to repeat history and realize that it cannot go on like this. Thankfully consumers, because of the internet, are becoming more educated on their own health and are beginning to get in the faces of their doctors and ASK about alternative treatments. But never forget that 90% of all medical school scholarship money comes from pharmaceutical companies - and they have a nasty habit of recalling the favors whenever and whereever possible.

Alas, the American citizenry will *NEVER* wake up until Bush2 and his Nazi ilk all but destroy us. The apatghy is just too great, and besides---- we're all too busy trying to survive on what little Bush2 allows us. The air is not fit to breathe; water is foul; the very ground is poisonous---- yet Bush2 and his fascist pals care *NOTHING* about these problems. They would rather set their priorities towards butchering children.

Well said. It is maddening to me, that herbs are constantly demonised and labelled as 'unsafe', while people are encouraged to pop chemically-created, artifical substance-filled capsules to control illnesses that quite likely could be cured or at the least alleviated by their cheaper herbal counterparts. It is more than likely these same artificial substances that are plaguing society with rising cancer rates!

In Germany it is allowed to consume hashish in small doses, when one has a medical condidtion, wich gets better doing it. I Denmark there is an outbreaker state called christiania (http://www.christiania.org), they have their own government, police force and clear out their own garbage, so I consider it a state on its own right, and its has "herbal drugs" on their positive list. You can walk to their main street and buy hashish by the pound o_0 Many sclerose patiens send people out there, but also many stupid young children.

But it also sickens me, that plants are misused to serve the vanity of humans, where humans just are another animal, basically, and have no right to do so. Also I agree on, that the person itself in responsible for their own health , the only think they can demand of governments, doctors and the like, is telling the truth, but they can't count on it either.

On and about Bush: I have a dream, that he feels him self enabled to just take the plane to Baghdad and say: "Okay, Saddam is out, what can we do for you, what do you need the US to do for you."
