Inspired by something that has been going back and forth on the House boards for a bit. I am being a bit of a Devil's Advocate here. (grins at Jaye and her muse, Azazeal) If evil, et al does not exist, then just what do we need protective heka against such things for? Do you think it is just an elaborate exercise in pop psychology engaged in by the ancients? Our Akhu did things the way they did for a reason, and it was not simply because they were unsophisticated and didn't know enough to understand the Nature of the Universe and how it works.

If that were true, then why are any of us here? Why is it we do what we do in our religion or personal spiritual practices? How do you get rid of the negative in your life?

Why must we assume that evil doesn't exist? Or even falling short of a concept of absolute metaphysical evil, certainly experience shows us that there are forces and personalities out there who are indifferent or hostile to our own happiness.

Absolutely. And I did edit my original post a little bit. There were some recent discussions around me lately where those who come from certain Pagan sects think that just by denying the exitance of something, you can therefore make it go away and remove any need to have to confront or deal with it. I find that just a little too much like wishful thinking.

Oh yeah, that makes a lot more sense with the context. That view has always bothered me, too. Okay, I get the importance of not lumping everything that we find distasteful as "evil" and in a lot of ways, it's just not a very useful descriptor. But you know what, I think there is actual evil out there in the world. Genocide, for instance. You want to see the face of evil, look at Darfur or Auschwitz. There are some other things that I consider evil as well, but they are few and far between. Most of it is attributable to stupidity, indifference, or the nature of the beast. But there are a few things that go beyond that and evil is the right word for them, because nothing short of that does the experience justice.

It's called divorce. Works wonders.

LOL! Having done that a few times, I definitely agree that is one way to handle it!

When I'm successful, it's generally by suffocating it with positive.

Seriously, there was so much that could have been addressed in that situation there...

[Edited because that sounded kinda mean.]
