To those of you on my friends list, and those of [livejournal.com profile] fannyfae, would, you /could you PLEASE use a LJ-cut when posting images and super long and verbose posts? I live in the boonies, and I know that isn't anyone's problem but mine, but this means I am on dialup. I will end up getting high-speed internet like the rest of the civilized world in about five years or more precisely when hell freezes over. I do not have cable, I do not have DSL. Unlike some of you who are so very spoiled you don't even remember what it is like to have to wait several minutes for a single page to load, I am pleading, begging, cajoling, for the sake of my sanity, put it under a LJ cut. My speeds range between 14.0 and 41.0 bps. I'ts not the greatest, trust me.

Those who do not or refuse to comply with this hunble request, unfortunately will have to be removed from this and [livejournal.com profile] fannyfae's friendslists. It isn't personal, but I am tired of having to ask.

What about thumbnail view?

From the picture poster's side. Would not dream of asking you to change anything on yours. I know the hell or used to, just looking at the options on my side.

Thumbnails that are sized by code take the same amount of time to load becuase the file is the same size. Anything you want to actually load faster has to be a smaller file, not a smaller size on the page.

Aahh, duly noted. Thanks*G*

That is fine. I dont have a problem with thumbnail views. What I do have a problem with are posts with three, four, five or more graphics in a single post, not under a cut. It's killing me! I can't even download my virus scan updates because they time out if I am on LJ looking at my friends pages at the same time!

Ouch.

Well, I will remember on my side, then, to not do that.

I would be happy to comply, but it isn't necessary to go to such extemes! You can always switch to image placeholders on your friends page (I use them, even with DSL to preserve my sanity). :)

Just go to the info editing page, and scroll down to "Use image placeholders on your friends page". It will let you choose the size of image you will allow to be displayed, or set it to "all images". Then, instead of whatever graphic someone posts, you will just see a teensy tag which you may then choose to open or not to open. :)

Thank you for the suggestion, MaƔi. You have ALWAYS been good about putting things beneath a cut. I thank you for that. It isn't just the graphics, however, it is the long, verbose posts, sometimes in hideously large type that is really taking its toll. It is so very easy to code a lj cut. I just don't understand why it is a problem.

I tend to use cuts most of the time. If I post something too long, let me know.

Large type is just.... eww.

I use cuts when I post something graphic, but I know I've sometimes started typing, posted, and when I looked at it afterwards, said "damn! I didn't know I had so much to say!".

I think I'm pretty good about keeping pictures behind LJ cuts....unless they're kitty pictures, and keeping stupidly long posts behind an lj cut as well.
If I haven't in the past, then I'm sorry. It irritates the hell out of me too to see ginormously large images in posts on friends lists or ridiculously long text posts.

It's just a small consideration, really. Graphic intensive posts are what people do when they want to spam communities just to be annoying. I had to quit a few pagan / interfaith communities becayse it got so bad.

Have a great evening :)

Sorry about yesterday's long post. Like another person said, I didn't know I'd said quite that much... and I only just now learned how to put my stuff behind a cut. *shrugs* technology confuzzles me. Being new to LJ it's more confuzzling than usual...
Again, I apologize.

Thanks for letting me know. *hugs* Still it's a good thing to know the etiquette around a place when you've just arrived, and you helped me know something I didn't.

Oh how I know the feeling. I too have dialup, and my connection speed is typically 26.8kbps because the phone lines around here are way outdated. Guess that's what I get for living way back in the boonies.
Trust me, I feel your pain. If I posted pictures, I would surely put them behind a cut, but I'm too lazy to use my photobucket account, so I don't post them....at least, I don't think I've ever posted a picture. I will be posting one soon though, simply because I'm rebeading my scarab necklace and I want to show everyone to get some opinions.

Ouch, that's bad :( I remember dial-up... *shudders*
Trying to play online games or download anything, was an exercise in frustration and misery.
Tell your local telecoms company to get off their collective backsides and bring you your well-deserved DSL! ;)

Oops....
