I never have understood the need of people to be downright rude. I am not saying that I have never in my life been rude myself, or been inhospitable. Admittedly I have, and I have paid the price for that rudeness in one form or another. What I don't get is the way that people are just uncaring, insensitive, boorish and downright unpleasant to each other. Having worked in customer service, I have heard every bit of snarkyness you can possibly imagine. It doesn't matter, they can call you every name in the book and your mother, too - and you have to smile and say 'thank you' at the end of it all. A good friend who I told I admired her for her patience said, she really wasn't very patient at all - she was just good at appearing that way. "Just imagine that you are patient, even when the person is being a complete jerk." It was good advice, and its served me well - especially in recent days.
I think I am going to keep this simple prayer in mind to be polite, to give some sort of pleasantness SOMEHOW to everyone I come into contact with. Some days its difficult, other days it seems damned near impossible, especially when the person dealing out the insults is pretty much trying ot kick you in the head while you are busy "imagining" that you are patient through it all. I guess in the end its no more than the patience that Netjer must give to each of us, even when we are being complete jerks.
