I cannot believe that some reporter, an unthinking and foolish woman, was just on blathering about the Columbia disaster as if it were some sort of rallying cry to get us ready for the coming war with Iraq. What started off as a question as to the scrutiny that NASA would fall under as a result of the latest shuttle disaster, this insensitive woman went on to state

"We have to not let these men and women down who died today. We have to keep America strong and remember that our space program is responsible for the sattelites that keep America safe, and pre-eminent in the world. "

Excuse me, but there was an Indian National and an Israeli National on board that shuttle, too. Since WHEN did this tragedy come to be about "America" and our "pre-eminent position" in the world? Seven people are dead, their families are grieving! Why can't war hungry, war mongering, muck stirring reporters think about those things?

This was a *reporter* who said this, and not an interview subject? If so I am quite surprised, too. Editorials belong on editorial pages, not in the middle of coverage. Even students know this.

She would have flunked out of the journalism school *I* went to.
