No one is going to believe me BUT
Jan. 27th, 2003 05:09 pmHEY YOU GUYS!!!!!
I just talked to Rita Moreno on the phone. Yes, this is the same lady who was in The King and I with Yul Brynner, and the same person that was on that kid's show on PBS, the Electric Company. She was calling to find out how to get some Earl Gray tea decafinated, as she had just been on a trip recently and was served the best Earl Gray she had ever had in her life. Where could she find it in California. I mentioned Whole Foods and Wild Oats and she was absolutely ecstatic!
She was a MUCH NICER person than last week's celebrity call -in! Ms. Moreno is just a really neat lady and proof positive that you do not need to be an insufferable person if you are a celebrity. ;-)

We actually had a permanent record of the time Sir Anthony Hopkins called and played with one of our reps, saying he wanted his bills addressed to "Hannibal", and made her note it in his account!
There were a few Elfmans in that service area too. : )

I used to work with a lady whose sister, a professional dancer, was in West Side Story with Rita Moreno! A few Hollywood types attended the sister's wedding in 1962, including Rita Moreno and an obscure character actor named Leonard Nimoy.

Date: 2003-01-29 04:52 am (UTC)I have listened to Leonard Nimoy in interviews and he had a very interesting write up in New Age Retailer that he did a year or two ago. He was talking about how he came up with the Vulcan hand thing - as it was part of his Jewish upbrininging. Apparently, it was something the rabbis did during the services at a part of the ritual where you aren't supposed to be looking, but being a curious little kid, he did. Heh...It was a cool article, I want to see if I can find it online.
Leonard Nimoy
Date: 2003-01-30 01:16 am (UTC)I saw Leonard Nimoy directing a scene for a Star Trek movie in 1986, at the Monterey Aquarium. In the late 1990s, I was lucky enough to meet him in person at Borders Books - what an intelligent, clever, distinguished man!
