The mouth of the Great Hap, known to many as the Nile, is a wild and dangerous place. I stood near the edge that overlooked Abu Simbel, looked down at the giant colossus that Usermaatre Rameses built in honour of himself and his queen, Merynmut Nefertiry. The wind whipped my hair about my face. In spite of being in the desert, there was little warmth afforded in the morning air. The only warmth was the hand that I felt at my back. Turning I looked into my companion's one good eye. He seemed as exhilarated as I was.
"This is the place where the Northern Kingdoms met the South," I said, "The last time I was here, we faced am enemy. Now I only face having done that which I have never done before."
His smile was a smirk and I thought I saw admiration in that one eye of his, "What is it that a woman such as you has never done, Madame, for surely you have lived long enough."
"Fly," I said, brushing a kiss at the corner of his mouth, "Not before today." With a sudden leap of legs and heart I hurled myself off the edge of the limestone cliff, into the arms of Shu, down toward the surface of Hapi, avoiding the embrace of Geb. The soft chastising whisper of silk in the breeze broke my fall.
