I have not even *begun* to get myself packed for Retreat. Good god, I need to henna my hair, get all of my saris, dupattas and salwaar kameez ready and packed. I just clearned the balance off of credit card so I don't have to worry about having enough money for gas, etc. when I leave. I still cannot believe I am going to be working till 6PM on Wednesday, going home, picking up
userbenu and then both of us turning right around and leaving that night. I must be insane! The more I think about it the more I believe that I should probably opt to stay that night at home, get some rest and then just leave very early Thursday AM instead.
Herb class yeterday was pretty good. One of the other students, Bear, had a cuticle on his hand that was so inflamed that the infection went all the way up the finger and half way up his arm. If I didnt know better I would say he had the beginnings of blood poisoning. It was amazing that the VA didnt do some serious treatment of the wound, because it was discoloured like a very very bad contousion or blood blister that covered nearly the whole finger. We ended up treating it by soaking in epsom salts, dousing with tea tree and then letting Bear sit with a poltice of plantain and yarrow and a drawing salve with chapparal and plantain. He goes back to the VA hospital later this week. I can only say that after the treatment it looked far less angry and inflamed than it was when he came in. It is a good thing Bear is on antibiotics internally. It was one of those borderline things that looked like it might warrant a trip to the ER.
Other than that Trilby and I went out to lunch afterward. She is rethinking the herb store and going to be having a huge sale and changing it more into a clinical store /practice center with massage therapy and herbal consultations, some product, etc. This will open up the space and actually have it so that I or others who are practicing can work out of the office. I atually like the idea. I also like it because Cedar Rapids, IA, for whatever reason just is not supporting alternative products stores. I dont think they ever will unless we get a bloody Whole Foods in this place, and we all know what that means! Gah..They don't call it Whole Paycheck for nothing! $5 for an organic tomato! Sheesh!
I've been harvesting purislane and ground ivy. Num...Purislane for those EFA's! Good stuff! I hope to be able to get some Wild Bergamot (Monarda fistulosa - Lamiaceae) aka sweet leaf on the way home. There are a couple stands of it in our woods. I think tinctured and formulated with the ground ivy it will be a wonderful treatment for inner ear infections, etc. I am thinking the Queen Anne's Lace will be ready in a few weeks, as will the Goldenrod. There is just so much to do and my brain is all mush because of Retreat. I have five monographs that are due and I REALLY need to finish that first draft of the herbal. My goal is to get it done this year.
I owe several reps on LJ and a story intsallment on Pan Historia so that my cowriters will not eat me or kill off
fannyfae before I get back from Chicago! Most everyone is patient, but there are a *few* people out there that do not know the meaning of the words, "real life"....as in I actually HAVE one, thank you very much! For those of you (and you know who you are!) who have been very patient and kind and have indulged my muses and my incessant rambling and bitching, Dua Netjer en etj! (Thank God for You!)
